Accessing the Federated Software Catalog

Currently, the Federated Software Catalog consists of the European Environment for Scientific Software Installations (EESSI).

On most EuroHPC systems, EESSI is available directly on both login nodes and compute nodes, as a read-only filesystem that is mounted at /cvmfs/software.eessi.io.

On some EuroHPC systems, EESSI is only available on-demand and/or in specific environment. Each EuroHPC system has its own page dedicated to System-specific details which covers such information.

How can I tell if EESSI is accessible?

To check whether EESSI is accessible, try to inspect the contents of the main EESSI repository software.eessi.io using the ls command:

ls /cvmfs/software.eessi.io

As a result, you should see the contents of the EESSI repository:

defaults host_injections init README.eessi versions

If you see a "No such file or directory" error message, then EESSI is not accessible.

If EESSI is accessible, you can proceed with Using the Federated Software Catalog.

What if EESSI is not accessible?

On some EuroHPC systems you may need to take specific action for EESSI to be accessible, or EESSI may not be accessible in certain places (for example, not on the login nodes).

If EESSI is not directly available on the EuroHPC system you are using, check the System-specific details for that system for more information.
