Available Software

The Federated Software Catalog currently consists of the European Environment for Scientific Software Installations (EESSI) being available on all EuroHPC systems that have been integrated with the EuroHPC Federation Platform.

This means that all software installations included in EESSI are available through the Federated Software Catalog.

The MyEFP user portal provides a contextualized overview of the Federated Software Catalog, see here (requires login).

A comprehensive overview of the software that EESSI provides is also available in the EESSI documentation, see here.

If the software you require is currently missing in the Federated Software Catalog, you should consider adding software to it, or installing software on top of it.

Synchronization across systems

Different systems synchronize with the EESSI repository at different times and at different frequencies.

As a result, software installations that have been added to EESSI recently may not be available yet on all systems where EESSI is available. Usually systems synchronize at least daily, so you should see less than 24 hours of delay between a software installation being added to EESSI and it being available on all systems that have EESSI.

For more information on how frequently the EuroHPC systems synchronize, see also the System-specific details.

Best Practices

Check whether software is available on right system

When checking whether particular software is provided by EESSI, you should always try to do so on the same (type of) system you want to use.

The login nodes of the system you are using may have a CPU with a different microarchitecture, or even be of a different CPU family, compared to the compute nodes you plan to use. In addition, they may not have a GPU available at all, and hence GPU software provided by EESSI will not be visible in the output produced by module avail.

As an alternative, you can inspect the software catalog in the MyEFP portal (requires login), or consult the overview of available software in the EESSI documentation.
